Accessibility of Airports in Border Regions (2024)
Metropolitan border regions are characterised by complementary metropolitan functions and, consequently, by particularly intensive cross-border linkages. The cross-border accessibility of the facilities and sites associated with these metropolitan functions is of crucial importance for the overall performance of metropolitan border regions. On behalf of the IMeG (Initiative Group for Metropolitan Border Regions), S&W calculated cross-border accessibility to airports - both by car and by public transport - and analysed various scenarios.
This cross-border accessibility study served to ensure that airport accessibility was appropriately taken into account as a key location factor, while also rendering the significance of cross-border linkages quantifiable. Furthermore, the study aimed to provide a model demonstrating how accessibility data can, in principle, be processed and presented in a manner suitable for serving as foundational information for strategic regional development.
