Professor Dr. Michael Wegener (1938-2024)

On February 2, 2024, our senior partner Professor Dr. Michael Wegener passed away at the age of 86.

Michael Wegener was a trained architect, but early on he turned with full conviction and heart to spatial planning tirelessly committed to research and teaching.

His sharp analytical focus, theoretically and empirically grounded, was on the explanation of spatial processes from the village or neighbourhood level to the city and the city region up to European or even global issues. He was particularly interested in exploring future sustainable and fair spatial structures and the possible paths there. To this end, he developed a wide range of methodological instruments from qualitative scenario techniques to complex simulation models. With his urban simulation models, he was one of the most recognized scientists in this field worldwide.

Michael Wegener was a co-founder of our small company and, after his time at university, was still actively involved in our research work until a few years ago.

With him we are losing much more than a company partner. We mourn the loss of an outstanding scientist and teacher and a long-time friend and colleague. We will miss him very much. Our deepest condolences go out to his children and their families.
